The work moves from raw material through an intimate trajectory that ends with firing. Regardless of material, every object requires  physical and mental  presence. Your complete devotion. It requires your instinct to balance opposites. Each movement forms a shape. Your  body literally writes itself into the shape, and has the potential to reflect your inner being. 

You take your tools out to dig in the earth until you find the right piece with which to grapple. Once found, you begin working the raw mass. You build a relationship with your material; wet it, knead it, let it dry, wait, make it pliable. An abstract idea starts to become a continuous, patient hand movement until some form arises. The clay must remain both soft yet stable, a tricky balance to achieve.

Or you work with porcelain, the “white gold” of materials.  Porcelain is capricious and difficult to work, like a fragile mass that often chooses to evade. You must first make it your own, to win it over with your hands until it absorbs your movement, joins in, and takes shape. The rarity of such a material demands constant, critical decision making until the final step of firing.

In diesem wöchentlichen Kurs bekommt ihr einen intensiveren Einblick in das Arbeiten an der Töpferscheibe. Ob ihr eure Kenntnisse vertiefen oder die erste Töpferluft schnuppern möchtet, hier habt ihr die Gelegenheit euch mit professioneller Unterstützung beim Drehen auszuprobieren und werdet durch die drei wichtigsten Schritte, nämlich Drehen, Abdrehen und Glasieren, zur Herstellung eines gedrehten Gefäßes geleitet. Euere Ergebnisse werden dann von mir gebrannt, sodass sie nach einigen Wochen im Studio von euch abgeholt werden können. Der Preis beinhaltet nebst 10h Kurszeit bereits Material und Brennkosten.

This weekly class will provide you with an insight into working on the potter’s wheel. Wether you already took a beginners class and want to deepen your skills or this may be your first time, here you have the opportunity to try your hand at throwing with professional support and guidance. Familiarising yourself with techniques through the three main steps  (throwing, trimming and glazing) of creating a wheel thrown ceramics piece. 
Your pieces will be fired and ready to collect from the workshops two weeks later. Price includes material and firing costs. 

All classes are fixed dates so be sure to block your calendars. Missed classes can not be substituted.

This class is is a perfect stepping stone for anyone who wants to try their hand at the wheel and get a taste before potentially enrolling on an intense throwing class, if they feel like they would like to further develop this practice.
